Legal Malpractice Claim Alleging $2.2 Million in Damages Settles for Confidential Amount

A recent settlement resolved legal malpractice and fiduciary duty claims filed by a Washington-based company against its former attorneys. Albert Law represented the company in the matter.

The dispute centered on allegations that attorneys for the company negligently drafted a contract that ultimately cost the company approximately $2.2 million in profits. The company alleged that the attorneys thereafter developed conflicts of interest by attempting to litigate the meaning of the contract they helped to draft.

The parties agreed to resolve the matter to the mutual satisfaction of each party.

Conflicts of interest arise when attorneys litigate the meaning of contracts they drafted. Because the meaning of the contract is in dispute, the drafting attorney has an incentive to frame the litigation in a way that deflects blame in case the contract is found to be negligently drafted.
